The Lee Lab at the University of Washington specializes in next-generation computer techniques in the fields of Big Data, Machine Learning, and Artificial Intelligence. Our contribution to the MacTel effort is to translate the latest advances in computer vision and computer science to greatly accelerate the research effort to understand the pathophysiology and potential therapeutics for MacTel. We have developed fully automated solutions for the segmentation of intraretinal pathology on structural retinal imaging for the purposes of scalable, high-throughput screening and annotation of large datasets. In addition, our lab has developed scalable algorithms for analyzing next-generation sequencing data for pathogen discovery. We aim to leverage our expertise in cutting edge, non-traditional computer science and data-driven techniques for acceleration of biomedical discovery toward the MacTel effort.
