Emily Y. Chew, M.D.

Emily Chew is currently the Deputy Director of the Division of Epidemiology and Clinical Research at the National Eye Institute. She attended medical school at the University of Toronto, followed by residency in Ophthalmology at University of Toronto, medical retina fellowships at Wilmer Eye Institute and University of Nijmegen, the Netherlands.

With her appointment in the Clinical Trials Branch at NEI, she has been involved in a number of studies in diabetic retinopathy and age-related macular degeneration. She currently is working on a large clinical trial comparing tight control vs. conventional control of glycemia, blood pressure and dyslipidemia in patients with type 2 diabetes, the ACCORD Study. She is currently involved in the analyses of the Age-Related Eye Disease Study (AREDS), and will be chairing a follow-up trial of nutritional supplements AREDS II.
